Remember the breathtaking cinematic of Star Wars: The Old Republic from last year’s E3? The one where a Sith Lord invades the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, which results in an epic battle of lightsabers, force powers, and general badassery? Well, BioWare has recently revealed the Dark Lord of the Sith responsible for said cinematic to be Darth Malgus. For fans looking to get their Old Republic fix before the actual game arrives sometime next year, the story of Darth Malgus will be told in the upcoming novel entitled Deceived.
The novel is being written by Paul S. Kemp, with “the full cooperation and creative consultation” of BioWare and LucasArts. At first, the choice of author may seem strange, as BioWare has traditionally stuck with their own writers for novels based within their game worlds, such as Drew Karpyshyn with the Mass Effect Novels, or David Gaider with Dragon Age. Kemp has written several books however, including a standalone Star Wars novel, so the credentials are there for such an undertaking.
Set in the same time period as the upcoming Star Wars game, Deceived will follow Darth Malgus on his rise to power, and explain how he became the Dark Lord of the Sith. Since the Sith are one of the two factions in the highly anticipated MMORPG, Darth Malgus will probably be playing a prominent role in the game, making Deceived an attractive book for gamers itching to jump into The Old Republic early.
Deceived is being published by Del Ray, and will be going on sale December 28, 2010, with the 256-page hardcover edition retailing for $27.00.
